Windsurf spots in East Sardinia
East Sardinia mixes long sandy bays with gusty thermals. San Teodoro's La Cinta and Lu Impostu are flatwater favourites, with Olbia, Posada and Cardedu nearby. See live wind, webcams and the forecast for each spot below.
Olbia / Vecchie Saline
Lagoon north of Olbia. Flatwater in light winds.
Wind: 8–20 kn · NW, SE — Sports: kite, windsurf, wing, SUP — Level: beginner — On site: school, rental
Rules: Kite at the dedicated beach next to the old salt lagoon; the shallow lagoon behind the beach is used for lessons. Best in Scirocco, Levante, Grecale and Tramontana.
Caution: Very shallow flatwater lagoon, low-hazard for beginners; the islands Tavolara and Molara create gusty Venturi acceleration.
Pittulongu (Olbia)
Olbia town beach. Beginner-friendly in light winds.
Wind: 8–22 kn · NE, E, SE — Sports: windsurf, kite, SUP, surf — Level: all levels — On site: school, food, camping
Rules: Town beach of Olbia: a summer spot in Scirocco (cross-on, starboard) and a winter spot in Tramontana and Grecale (port). Give way to swimmers in the bathing season.
Caution: Shallow water raises quick chop and shore waves in Scirocco; in winter Tramontana can build genuine 3–4 m waves with 30+ kn for advanced riders only.
Murta Maria / Marina Maria
Windsurf-school beach in the Gulf of Olbia, near Capo Ceraso. Works in Mistral and Scirocco.
Wind: 10–25 kn · NW, SE — Sports: windsurf, wing, SUP — Level: all levels — On site: school, rental, food, WC
Rules: Surf Center Marina Maria windsurf school on the beach offers courses (all levels) and rental; the Gulf of Olbia spot works in Maestrale (NW) and Scirocco (SE).
Caution: Sheltered gulf beach near Capo Ceraso — low-hazard and beginner-friendly; busy with bathers in summer.
Porto Taverna
Bay with view of Tavolara. Beginner-friendly.
Wind: 8–20 kn · NE, E — Sports: windsurf, kite, SUP, surf — Level: beginner — On site: school, rental, food
Rules: Sheltered family bay below Porto San Paolo facing Tavolara; works best in Maestrale (NW) and Scirocco (SE). Watch for swimmers as it is a popular bathing beach.
Caution: Shallow gently sloping sandy bottom — low-hazard and beginner-friendly; gets crowded with bathers in summer.
Golfo Aranci
Sheltered coves. Light wind, good in Scirocco.
Wind: 8–20 kn · NE, E — Sports: windsurf, kite, SUP, surf — Level: beginner — On site: school, rental, food
Rules: Light-wind learning area in the Golfo di Marinella between Porto Rotondo and Golfo Aranci; favoured by Scirocco and Tramontana, with NE winds the first to build waves.
Caution: Shallow white-sand beach, low-hazard in light wind; in strong NE/N wind it can become choppy and demanding, and bathers crowd the bay in summer.
San Teodoro (La Cinta)
Sardinia's top east-coast windsurf spot. 5 km La Cinta beach + Lu Impostu. Lagoon for beginners.
Wind: 10–30 kn · NE, E, SE — Sports: windsurf, kite, wing, SUP, surf — Level: all levels — On site: school, rental, food, WC, camping
Rules: Dedicated supervised kite zone (La Fuchìtta) mid-beach on La Cinta — kite there and walk to the quieter north end. Best in Scirocco (SE); camping and smoking are banned on La Cinta, Lu Impostu and Cala Brandinchi.
Caution: Long shallow sandy beach with side-on chop, low-hazard; very crowded with bathers in summer so keep clear of swimming areas. The lagoon (Stagno) suits absolute beginners.
La Caletta (Siniscola)
Long sandy beach, wave + bumps. Windsurf-friendly.
Wind: 12–30 kn · NE, E, SE — Sports: windsurf, kite, wing, SUP, surf — Level: all levels — On site: school, rental, food, WC, camping
Rules: Long sandy beach: the VDWS windsurf school sits mid-beach (with lifeguard) and two kite schools share the wide open space toward the caletta. Best in S/SE Scirocco; Maestrale brings lively freeride conditions.
Caution: Sandy shallow bottom keeps waves small and bumps friendly; wind gets gusty in straight southerly (S) flow off the hills near Santa Lucia.
Posada
Long shallow sandy bay. Onshore wave in Levante/Scirocco.
Wind: 10–25 kn · NE, E, SE — Sports: windsurf, kite, SUP, surf — Level: beginner — On site: school, rental, food, WC
Rules: Wide shallow sandy bay with flatwater and steady thermal wind, ideal for learning; a single school keeps plenty of space free. Best in S/SE and N/NE winds, accessed from the Su Tiriarzu beach parking.
Caution: Very shallow and sandy — low-hazard; onshore wave builds in Levante/Scirocco so keep clear of the shore break.
Cala Liberotto
Sandy coves Gulf of Orosei. Light wind, beginner.
Wind: 8–18 kn · NE, E, SE — Sports: windsurf, surf, SUP — Level: beginner — On site: school, rental, food
Rules: Sandy coves in the Gulf of Orosei among granite rocks and pinewood; light-wind beginner area, mainly NE (late summer/autumn) and SE (spring) winds.
Caution: Granite rocks fringe the sandy coves — watch your footing and downwind drift; mostly light winds.
Orosei
Long sandy beach, broad shore break. Good in Levante.
Wind: 10–25 kn · NE, E — Sports: windsurf, surf, SUP — Level: intermediate — On site: school, rental
Rules: Long open sandy beach with a broad shore break; works in NE and Levante (E) winds and picks up swell from S/SE. Schools operate in the Orosei area.
Caution: Exposed beach with a broad, sometimes dumpy shore break; current and side-drift increase with stronger swell.
Cardedu / Museddu
Wave spot in Ogliastra. Mix of flat & bumps.
Wind: 12–35 kn · NE, E, SE — Sports: kite, windsurf, wing, SUP, surf — Level: intermediate — On site: school, rental
Rules: Open sandy bay (Museddu/Foddini) by the Kitesurf Ogliastra centre; best in thermal Scirocco (SE), side-shore and consistent. Rig under the pines by the parking and rinse at the freshwater tap.
Caution: Water deepens quickly off the beach and SE swell brings a wave/shore break, so it suits riders past the beginner stage.
